Last month, I had the pleasure of working with two doctoral candidates who are entering the next phase of their academic careers: post-grad opportunities and professorships. Doctoral students thrive on feedback and understand the need for revision. We worked on the cover letter, research statement, teaching statement, diversity statement, and in one case, a writing sample. This is what I strive for with clients—trust and collaboration. I wish Vic and Diego the best of luck in pursuing their goals!
I was delighted with Joanne’s comments on my cover letter. No one had made such accurate and pertinent comments to me. Her help has given me more security and self-confidence in this very complex process.
Her suggestions for revising my research statement helped me to summarize my dissertation. If I get an interview, I will have this abstract as a “mental” reference to explain what I wrote in my thesis.
Joanne helped me find a personal voice in my diversity and teaching statements. Her help has turned this process into something more aesthetic, connected to my emotions and identity.
Joanne’s help and advice have been vital to me, and I highly recommend her work!
Diego Arevalo (doctorate candidate).
Thank you, Diego, for your kind remarks. I enjoyed so much working with you. Best of luck in the weeks leading to graduation!
As a non-English native speaker, I’m not confident in my writing skills. So even though I have worked very hard on my documents, I’m delighted with Joanne’s proofreading of them. They were in good shape, but after Joanne’s revisions, there are much better.
She is very dedicated and punctual about her work, which is very important when applying for jobs. I appreciate her commitment and suggestions.
